The government of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi has voiced its strong support for the upcoming PPP Middle East conference, due to take place at the Hilton Abu Dhabi this January. The event will not only cover the future development of PPPs in the region but will also have a specific focus on procurement projects in Abu Dhabi. With involvement from public authorities and international NGOs from over ten countries, the conference takes place at a key moment as the region reaches a crossroads in terms of future development plans. Looking ahead to the conference, the Municipality commented:
"The Municipality of Abu Dhabi is pleased to be a part of PPP Middle East...We hope this conference will shed new light on various aspects of PPPs, give a new perspective and help build successful partnerships with the private sectors"
The prestigious line up of speakers represents the Emirate's interest in bolstering private sector investment for 2012 and beyond across a range of projects, and demonstrates emerging business opportunities for stakeholders. Maintenance and infrastructure projects in transport, healthcare, water and power and education will form a focal point for key discussions designed to mobilise future project finance investments.
Geoff Haley, Chairman of the International Project Finance Association, will chair the first session of the conference demonstrating the viability of PPPs as a key enabler to mobilise infrastructure projects in the region. Mr. Haley explains: "We need to understand the changing financing techniques and research potential future projects; in addition, facilitate interaction with the public and private sectors to gain a better insight into the market. PPP Middle East offers these opportunities and the chance to meet the key players in the region."
Key to the success of PPP deployment is the commitment from the public sector, which is strongly represented at PPP Middle East. Speakers including H.E. Eng. Abdullah Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Municipality will deliver an update on the UAE 2030 economic vision to develop project finance initiatives in the Abu Dhabi Municipality, while H.E. Loay Al-Musallam, CEO of The National Water Company will chair a panel discussion exploring the changes that need to be made to the PPP model in order to facilitate PPP project planning.
Delegates drawn from across the government, financial, legal, development and contractor sectors will benefit from the wealth of knowledge shared by the speakers and engage with the topics through interactive panel discussions. A networking lunch, sponsored by PwC, will give delegates a unique chance to maximise their networking time while enjoying the facilities at the luxurious Hilton Abu Dhabi.
