Albania plans $1bn PPP pipeline

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced a US$1 billion program to support infrastructure and other major development projects through a public-private partnership model.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting with banking sector executives, Finance Minister Arben Ahmetaj said that the Prime Minister’s idea for US$1 billion national reconstruction program will support infrastructure development, education and healthcare. According to Ahmetaj the program was presented in details and the country’s banking institutions have shown interest in this idea.

Implementation of major projects through the public-private partnership (PPP) model will allow for the development of infrastructure assets and will improve public service delivery.

Ahmetaj said:

“Financial and banking institutions have shown great interest in this program. Detailed technical aspects of the program will be offered in the coming days. Another meeting between the Prime Minister and business community representatives is planned.”

“The PPP is a mechanism that would provide better services to citizens and develop assets in road infrastructure, schools and hospitals across the country within two or three years.”
