ANI plans an expansion of the Cartagena Airport

Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced the plans for the modernization and expansion of the Rafael Nuñez Internation Airport (Cartagena Airport) under PPP scheme.

The works, which would be ready by the end of 2020, include the construction of an international terminal, a new boarding pier parallel to the current building with 5 boarding bridges and expanding platform simultaneously for 15 aircraft type 320.

The total area of ​​the new construction exceeds 18,000 m2 for a final area the terminal, more than 35,000 m2. a taxiway parallel to the runway and a parking lot will be built in height.

During the 2016 Cartagena Airport mobilized 4,422,105 passengers, representing an increase of 12% over 2015, which mobilized 3,959,743. In the months of January to March 2017 they have traveled 1,445. 636 travelers. This expansion project effectively address an estimated demand of 7.5 million passengers per year.

Luis Fernando Andrade, president of the National Infrastructure Agency, said:

"At this hearing, the scope and benefits of the project that was presented to the ANI explained. Was also attended community concerns and doubts from different sectors are cleared. There is a challenge and expand the infrastructure to serve the growing number of travelers who come to one of the most important tourist destinations in the country."
