Bogota announces new infrastructure investment plan

The Government of Bogotá, Colombia, has announced a new infrastructure investment plan "Plan de Desarrollo de la Administración de Enrique Peñalosa"

The plan aims to transform Bogotá with new schools, hospitals, a subway, new lines of bus rapid transit system, and the development of other infrastructure public private partnerships (PPPs) projects.

The plan involves an investment of approximately COP96.1 billion (US$31.9 billion). The government aims to attract COP13.0 billion (US$4,31 billion) through the use of the PPP model to carry out the projects.

The plan also includes the upgrade of the city's road network and bike paths, the execution of 30 percent of the civil works of the first Metro line and the optimization of the integrated public transportation system. All these measures will improve the mobility of pedestrians, cyclists, and users of public and private transport.

Related to the educational and health sector, the plan includes the development of 30 new schools, which will create 35,000 new places in higher education and 12,000 in primary and secondary education, the construction of up to 40 centers of Priority Health Care, 6 hospitals and 4 urgency center, among others.
