Brazil government publishes PMI for bridge concession

On january 29, 2014, Brazil's Ministry of Transport has published the tender notice for companies interested in executing the feasibility studies for  the Rio-Niterói Bridge concession project.

President Costa e Silva Bridge, commonly known as the Rio-Niteroi Bridge, is currently a box girder bridge crossing Guanabara Bay, in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It connects the city of Rio de Janeiro and the municipality of Niterói.

The feasibility studies will help for the re-concession of the bridge. The term of the current contract expires in May 2015 and the current concessionaire is CCR .

The feasibility studies must include:

  • Demand study: characterization of the current demand by vehicle type and projection of future demand;
  • Engineering: current status of the infrastructure and associated costs of maintenance and conservation programs required;
  • Operation: equipment, devices and systems required for operation of maritime transport;

  • Studies of technical and operational alternatives to improve the traffic flow on the bridge , on access roads and adjacent roads;
  • Environmental studies;
  • Economic and financial modeling;
  • Support in the preparation of tender documents.

The deadline for registration is 10 days after the publication of the PMI, which was on 29 January 2014. The deadline for submission of studies is 120 days.
