Deadline extended for Vilnius multifunctional hub project

The city of Vilnius, Lithuania, has extended the deadline to submit expressions of interest (EOI) to develop a multifunctional hub (MH) through a public-private partnership (PPP) project.

The deadline has been extended from 1 October 2014 to 10 October 2014.

The new MH will be carried out in a 22.9 ha territory located near to the city's busiest commercial area. Creating a Multifunctional facility for sport, education, culture, health and business is intended to contribute towards the city's sustainable development. The project involves specifically:

  • a pre-school educational facility,
  • a conference hall,
  • commercial premises for start-up businesses,
  • a public library,
  • 4 artificial turf football fields,
  • 9 running tracks with an artificial surface and competition area for field athletics,
  • training area for field athletics,
  • 3 universal sports halls,
  • accommodation facilities for 100 persons,
  • administrative premises,
  • a sports museum,
  • venues for indoor cultural events (up to 1,000 seats),
  • a venue for outdoor national/municipal public events with a 20,000 seat minimum, and
  • a parking area.

The contract to establish and operate the new MH will have a period of 25 years. Co-financing using EU funds is being considered for this project.

Implementing this project will benefit Vilnius in a number of ways: by promoting leisure activities for children and young people, by enabling the attainment of higher levels of education and health, and by improving the environment for business activities.
