Duterte government not to review PPP projects signed under Aquino´s administration

According to sources, Philippine government headed by president Duterte is not going to review any of the public-private partnership (PPP) projects approved under the Aquino administration, so there is no risk of delaying the construction of these infrastructure projects.

However, the new administration will review those PPP projects not approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

The NEDA is currently reviewing a group projects among which are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Development project (PHP74.56 billion), Plaridel Bypass Toll Road (PHP9.33 billion), Philippine Travel Center Complex (P1.75 billion), Batangas-Manila (BatMan) 1 Natural Gas Pipeline (PHP14.72 billion), New Nayong Pilipino at Entertainment City (PHP158 billion), Integrated Transport System-North Terminal PHP4.21 billion, the very costly Manila Bay Integrated Flood Control, Coastal Defense and Expressway Project (PHP536 billion) and maintenance and development of the Panglao, Laguindingan and Davao airports, valued at PHP4.57 billion US$98.5 million, PHP14.62 billion (US$32.5 million), and PHP40.57 billion (87.4 million), respectively.

According to sources, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said:

"All these projects will enjoy the presumption of regularity."

“If it is [PPP projects] in the work, we will proceed with it. We will not stop and review everything. We lost two years during the Aquino administration when they stopped everything when they took office in 2010, we will not commit that same mistake.”

“We do not want to unduly delay the much-needed infrastructure projects in the country. That is not what we are here for. Thus, we will only review those which have not yet been approved, we do not want to delay all these important projects.”
