G4S Facilities Management appoints PFI Director

G4S Facilities Management (G4S FM), a FM business which is part of the £1.3 billion (US$1.6 billion)  G4S UK & Ireland Region, has appointed Phillip Thorne as PFI Director responsible for a number of its Private Finance Initiative FM concessions.

As PFI director, Phillip will be a member of the FM executive committee, reporting directly to Managing Director Peter Jones. Phillip will be responsible for managing the multiple PFI contracts with schools in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Greenwich, as well as in North Wiltshire. He will also oversee contracts at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Churchill Hospital in Oxford, as well as community and healthcare centres in London and Wolverhampton.

Peter Jones, Managing Director G4S FM UK&I said:

“Having known Phillip for a number of years as a prominent member of the FM industry, I am assured his talent and proven business acumen will strengthen our highly skilled senior management team. His key role will be to continue to drive excellence and improved delivery of hard and soft FM services across the PFI customer base”.

Phillip has extensive private and public sector FM experience across the UK, EMEA and Eastern European markets, notably in the banking, telecoms and infrastructure environments.

Qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor, his first FM role took him to Russia in 1995, working for commercial real estate services firm DTZ, managing their St Petersburg Office consultancy and FM business. Returning to the UK, he spent 11 years leading outsourced high profile public sector FM contracts for the Metropolitan Police, BT and DEFRA.  Recently, he led key outsourced FM managing agent service contracts across EMEA providing services to both American Express and the Bank of New York Mellon.

Commenting on his appointment, Phillip said:

“I am excited to have the opportunity to join the G4S FM senior management team and have the opportunity to enhance the value of our services to key public sector clients in the education and healthcare sectors in the UK.”
