Guatemala seeks again airport advisor

The government of Guatemala, through the PRONACOM programme, has launched a tender process to seek an advisor for the modernization of La Aurora Airport.

It is the second time the country seeks an advisor for the project. The first tender was launched in October 2016 and eight companies submitted bids. However, the procurement was canceled in February 2017.

Agencia Nacional de Alianzas para el Desarrollo de la Infraestructura Económica (ANADIE) has explained that the tender process will have the same conditions, but it will include some clarifications. The advisor will prepare the feasibility study of the project.

The project comprises the upgrade, finance operation and maintenance of the airport on BOT basis. Located 6.4 km south of Guatemala City's center and 25 km from Antigua Guatemala, it is the primary airport of Guatemala. The total project investment is estimated at US$200 million.

The project is included in ANADIE's portfolio published in March 2017. The portfolio includes a total of nine projects to be developed under the PPP model. Most of the projects belong to the transport sector. The other projects are: Guatemala City State Administrative Center, Tecún Umán Intermodal Dry Port, Escuintla - Puerto Quetzal Highway, Guatemala City North-East Bypass, Guatemala City's Commuter Rail and Road Interconnection Vial, Old Guatemala Bypass, Guatemala - Mexico gas pipeline project and Pacific freight train.
