Manitoba issues schools RFP

The Canadian province of Manitoba has released a competitive request for proposals (RFP) to develop a P3 business case and financial advisory services for constructing four new schools.

The P3 model would see private companies design, build, finance and maintain the schools, but they would still be operated by school boards.

The project will hold up an estimated investment of US$100 million.

The new schools would provide capacity for 2,500 students, with the ability to expand to 3,300. Each of the schools will also be designed to accommodate a child-care centre with 20 infant spaces and 54 preschool spaces.

The school projects will involve:

  • A kindergarten to Grade 5 French immersion school in the Seven Oaks School Division in northwest Winnipeg with a capacity of 450 students.
  •  A kindergarten to Grade 8 school in the Waterford Green subdivision, located in Winnipeg's northwest corner near The Maples, with a capacity of 600 students.
  •  A kindergarten to Grade 8 school in southeast Brandon with a capacity of 450 students.
  •  A high school for Pembina Trails in Waverley West with a capacity of 1,000 students.

The RFPs deadline for submissions is June 15.

The goal is for the four school projects to break ground in the 2019 construction season.
