The proposed Red de Expresos Regionales (RER) network will have an estimated investment of US$2.3 billion  and will improve transport links between the national capital and surrounding areas.

According to Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich, the government is looking to develop the project via public-private partnerships and it is now looking for interested private sector partners.

The railway project will involve the construction of 20 kilometers of tunnels and  a total of 8 new underground stations which will interconnect 6 existing passenger lines in the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area. This first stage of the RER will connect the three largest rail lines in Buenos Aires, thanks to an 11-kilometer tunnel under 9 de Julio Avenue and two new underground stations in the Constitución terminal and below the emblematic Obelisco.

The project will benefit aboout 1 million people that commute to the capital every day and the 10m that live the Greater Buenos Aires Area.
