Mexico to build seven hospitals using PPP model

IMSS, the Mexican Social Security Institute, has announced plans to develop a total of seven hospitals through the public private partnership (PPP) model.

According to the Finance Ministry's 2016 budget proposal, the projects would need federal funding of approximately P8.8 billion (US$518.7 million).

The seven projects considered by the Government are the following:

* García Municipality new Hospital. Located in the municipality of García, in the northern state of Nuevo León, the new facilities will have a total of 260 beds and 38 consulting rooms. The total project investment is estimated at P1.81 billion (US$106.7 million), of which the federal government will invest P739 million in 2016 and P1.07 billion in 2017.

* Tepotzotlán new HospitalLocated in Tepotzotlán, in the central state of Mexico, the new facilities will have a total of 260 beds and 43 consulting rooms. The total project investment is estimated at P1.7 billion (US$100.2 million), of which the federal government will invest P712 million in 2016 and P1.04 billion in 2017.

* Mexico City new Hospital. The project will involve the development of a 120 bed facility on the plot where an old hospital is located. The project also includes the demolition of that hospital. The total project investment is estimated at P1.51 billion (US$89 million).

* Bahía de Banderas Municipality new HospitalLocated in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas in the state of Nayarit, the new facilities will have a total of 144 beds and 32 consulting rooms. The total project investment is estimated at P1.14 billion (US$67.2 million), of which the federal government will invest P509 million in 2016 and P634 million in 2017.

* Tapachula Municipality new Hospital. Located in the municipality of Tapachula, in the state of Chiapas, the new facilities will have a total of 180 beds and 31 consulting rooms. The total project investment is estimated at P1.36 billion (US$80.2 million), of which the federal government will invest P563 million in 2016 and P794 million in 2017.

* Villahermosa new Hospital. Located in the municipality of Tabasco, the new facilities will have a total of 155 beds and 29 consulting rooms. The total project investment is estimated at P710 million (US$41.8 million).

* Mérida new Hospital. Located in the municipality Yucatán, the new facilities will have a total of 66 beds. The total project investment is estimated at P603 million (US$35.5 million).

According to sources, most of the projects are expected to be awarded under 25-year concessions. Construction works are expected to begin next year.
