Mexico opens Salamanca Leon road concession

The Government of Mexico, through its president Peña Nieto, has inaugurated the Salamanca - León road concession in Guanajuato.

The 79 km road public private partnership (PPP) project involved the development of a four lane highway, alternative to the road that today links Salamanca, Irapuato, Silao and Leon. Work has been carried out in two stretches; the first running over 29.5 km from Salamanca to Irapuato and the second over 49.5 km to León.

The project has been developed on a under a build, operate, and maintain contract. The total project investment has been approximately P3.45 billion (US$207.7 million).

On 12 April 2011 the Mexico transport and communications ministry awarded the 30-year concession to a consortium of local companies comprising of Coconal, Operadora de Autopistas and México Constructora Industrial.

Guanajuato is one of the 31 states in Mexico. It is divided into 46 municipalities and its capital city is Guanajuato, but the largest city in the state is León. It is located in North-Central part of Mexico.
