Minas Gerais suspends tender for regional airport PPP

The state of Minas Gerais (Brazil), through the Region's Transport and Public Works Ministry (SETOP), has suspended the tender process for the Zona da Mata Regional Airport PPP project.

According to sources the tender process will be analyzed and relaunched later. Approximately 40 questions and inquiries were made since it was published.

In mid September we reported that the SETOP had issued the tender process for the project. The deadline to submit proposals was 21 October 2014.

The project includes the operation, administration, implementation and maintenance of a number of improvements to the Regional Airport Zona da Mata (ARZM), also known as Itamar Franco Airport.

As part of the proposed deal a private firm would carry out the project over a 30-year. It is valued at around R$189 million (US$ 78 million).

Zona da Mata Regional Airport is an airport serving Juiz de Fora and the region of Zona da Mata, located in the municipality of Goianá, Minas Gerais. The construction of the airport was completed in 2007 but the commercial operations didn't start until August 23, 2011. In March 2011 Infraero ceased to administrate the airport and Multiterminais Alfandegados do Brasil became the new administrator.

Brazil has recently issued two tender processes for PPP projects:
