Minas Gerais tenders expansion of regional airport through PPP

The state of Minas Gerais (Brazil), through the Region's Transport and Public Works Ministry (SETOP), has launched the tender process for the the Zona da Mata Regional Airport PPP project.

The project includes the operation, administration, implementation and maintenance of a number of improvements to the Regional Airport Zona da Mata (ARZM), also known as Itamar Franco Airport.

As part of the proposed deal, a private firm will carry out the project over a 30-year, valued at around R$189 million (US$ 78 million).

Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before 21 October 2014.

Zona da Mata Regional Airport is an airport serving Juiz de Fora and the region of Zona da Mata, located in the municipality of Goianá, Minas Gerais. The construction of the airport was completed in 2007 but the commercial operations didn't start until August 23, 2011. In March 2011 Infraero ceased to administrate the airport and Multiterminais Alfandegados do Brasil became the new administrator.

The state is currently overseeing numerous PPP deals as the country seeks to improve its infrastructure ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and 2016's Olympic Games.
