New Brunswick to seek PPP partner for nursing homes

New Brunswick (Canada) is seeking a developer to build a new nursing home under a P3 agreement. The new project aims to replace the two deteriorating ones in Miramichi, in the Canadian province.

The old nursing homes, has to deal with temperature control problems, lack of running water and some security issues such as difficulty to evacuate residents if there is a fire. 

According to sources, New Brunswick Premier David Alward had supported the renovation project with an amount of CAD8.2million (US$6.4million). However, the project, which was expected to be completad last lear, has run into some problems.

The 240-bed nursing P3 project will be developed under design, build, finance, own and operate (DBFO) model. The total cost has not yet been released.

New Brunswick’s minister of seniors and long-term care Lisa Harris, said:

“The success of other public-private partnership nursing home projects in the province gives us the confidence that this is the right way to proceed for Miramichi”

Miramachi expects to launch a request for qualifications (RFQ) this summer, followed by a request for proposals (RFP) before the fall with the selected developer to be announced in 2017.
