Nizar Qallab joins MENA Infrastructure fund

Mr. Nizar Qallab has joined MENA Infrastructure as the new Investment Director for the fund manager. He joins from Exotix Partners, a frontier and emerging market investment firm where Mr. Qallab helped raise the MENA region's first subordinated debt infrastructure fund.

Mr. Qallab is an infrastructure investment professional with over 13 years of experience.

Prior to Exotix, Mr. Qallab headed infrastructure at JD Capital, one of the most active and successful infrastructure investors in the MENA region. In this position, Mr. Qallab was responsible for the divestment of an infrastructure portfolio consisting of controlling stakes in one power generation (CEGCO) and two power distribution companies (EDCO and IDECO) which generated above industry average returns.

Mr. Qallab has also worked on several greenfield project finance transactions including the Al Qatrana IPP, Al Kamsha Wind IPP and the Aqaba Port build-operate-transfer.

Mr. Qallab holds an MA in international Trade & Investment Policy from The George Washington University and B.Sc. In Business Management from King's College.

The fund manager, owned by HSBC, Dubai-based Fajr Capital and Abu Dhabi's Waha Capital, recently announced fundraising for the $500 million MENA Infrastructure Fund II. The fund will have the same proven investment strategy as MENA Infrastructure Fund, and will target the same asset classes. It will focus on the key geographies of the first fund and will also include Turkey, a dynamic and fast growing infrastructure space.
