Ontario issues RFQ for Highway 401 expansion

Canada's Infrastructure Ontario (IO) on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has launched the request for qualifications (RFQ) for the widening of Highway 401 from the Highway 403/410 interchange to the Credit River in the City of Mississauga, Regional Municipality of Peel.

The Highway 401 Expansion project is approximately 18 km long and is located within the western part of the Greater Toronto Area, from the Credit River in Mississauga to Regional Road 25 in Milton.
The Project includes widening the existing six lane configuration to the following:

  • 12-lane Core-Collector system from the Credit River to Winston Churchill Boulevard.
  • 10-lanes from Winston Churchill Boulevard to the 407 ETR/Highway 401 Interchange.
  • 12-lane Core-Collector system from the 407 ETR / Highway 401 Interchange to east of the James Snow Parkway.
  • 10-lanes from the James Snow Parkway to RR 25.

Each section described above will include two High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes (one in each direction), with the remainder of the lanes (either eight or ten depending on the section) being general purpose lanes.
The widening will involve minor and major modifications to existing infrastructure to accommodate the proposed widening.

AECOM Canada Ltd (AECOM) has been retained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to undertake the Detail Design Project.

The deadline for submitting the RFQ documents for the project is on or before 28 June at 2:00 pm (local hour).
