Paraguay to do open consultation of bridge project

Paraguay has announced that the country will do an open consultation to analyze the construction of a bridge between Paraguay and Argentina.

The consultation is an initiative of the Paraguay's Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and it is aimed especially at those in the area of influence of the project.

The bi-national bridge will be constructed on the Parana River, between the towns of El Dorado, in the Argentina province of Misiones, and Mayor Otaño, in the Itapúa department of Paraguay. The bridge will alleviate existing traffic along the border, and save time and money.

In 2014, the governments of Argentina and Paraguay invested about US$700,000 on a study of the bridge. The study aimed to identify factors that determine current demand for transportation between the two cities and also calculate future demand. The Inter-American Development Bank's non-refundable contribution towards the study was US$500,000.

It is expected that the results of the study will be published during the consultation. The consultants hired for the study and the Road Planning Department and the MOPC's Socio-Environmental Management Department will present the objectives and scope of the project.
