RFQ launched for waste PPP project in Kuwait

The Partnerships Technical Bureau in collaboration with Kuwait Municipality have launched a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Kabd Municipal Solid Waste Project.

The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis for a period of 25 years after the anticipated date for the commencement of operations. The facility will have an initial design capacity of 3,275 tonnes per day using a waste to energy technology to generate electricity. The construction period will be approximately 4 years.

Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before Sunday 25 May 2014.

The proposed facility will occupy an area of 500,000 m2, located approximately 25 km from Kuwait City. The project aims at developing a new treatment facility for Municipal Solid Waste produced in the Kabd catchment area. The facility will accommodate up to 50% of Kuwait's municipal solid waste  (household/commercial/agriculture).

The objectives of the project are diversion of municipal waste from landfills and the generation of energy through waste incineration. The facility is expected to contribute to the modernization of Kuwait's integrated municipal solid waste system by improving its economic, environmental and social performance.
