Rio de Janeiro hires consultants for water, sewerage PPP

Rio de Janeiro has hired Ernst & Young and Aegea, a local sanitation company, as technical advisors for a water, and sewerage PPP project in Rio de Janeiro.

EY and Aegea have been contracted by state water utility Cedae following the Request for Expresion of Interest issued earlier this year. Upon the completion of the technical studies there will be a tender process for the concession of the project.

The 30-year concession contract envisages the development of solutions for potable water supply and sewerage services in about 30 favelas, in the state capital Rio de Janeiro, which will benefit about 140,000 households.

According to sources, this project would only involve those favelas considered safe by the local police.
