SADC establishes fund for infrastructure project development - Projects sought

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has established a regional fund to provide capital to governments and local private sector for project development initiatives such as feasibility studies and due diligence processes

The SADC Project Preparation and Development Facility (PPDF) has a minimum grant of $250,000 and is administered by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) which is also the implementing agent for qualifying projects.

The grant beneficiary contribution will be a minimum of 5%of the total preparatory activity costs. Preparatory activities include pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, economic and financial analysis costs, detailed design costs, tender preparation costs, legal and transaction advisory services costs.

The PPDF will finance preparation of projects in the following sectors:
  • Transport: including road, bridges, air, shipping, rail, ports, and border posts;
  • Energy: including generation, transmission and distribution, including projects supporting alternative and/or renewable energy;Information and Communication Technologies, including Telecommunications;
  • Water and Sanitation;
  • Tourism related infrastructure (as in Trans-frontier Conservation Areas).

The Request for Proposals opened on the 1st of September 2014 and will close on 30th of October 2014 at 13h00 South Africa Standard Time.
