Surat launches RFP for waste PPP project

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), in the Indian state of Gujarat, has launched a request for proposals (RFP) for a waste public private partnership (PPP) project.

The preferred bidder will be responsible for the design, build, own, operate and maintain of a construction & demolition (C&D) waste management system including collection, transportation and treatment.

This project aims to take care of all the present C&D waste of SMC and process them to provide raw material for producing wide range of eco and green building materials like brick, paver, blocks, etc. The new plant will have a specialized segregation system, debris handling system, crusher and other required units.

The total quantity of C&D waste has increased lately in the city. New developments are coming around the city and many old buildings are been demolished at the same time. C&D waste constitutes 10-15 % of total waste collection from Surat city.

Surat has a population of about 4.6 million, making it he second largest city in the state of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad. The city is located 284 km south of the state capital,Gandhinagar, on the south of Tapti River.

Interested parties must submit the required documents for one or all of the three project constituents (collection, transportation or treatment) on or before 5 November.
