Tunisia to execute cable car project on PPP model

Tunisian Tourism Minister Selma Elloumi Rekik, has announced plans to develop a cable car project on Djebel Zaghouan, the highest point in Eastern Tunisia.

According to sources, the minister announced the project on 28 May during a working session at the headquarters of the governorate of Zaghouan.

Zaghouan mountain, located in an area of National Park, is the site of a Roman temple known as the Temple de Eaux (Temple of Water) which marks the site of an aqueduct which used to take water to the city of  Carthage over 100 km away.

The project will be implemented through the public private partnership (PPP) model. It is part of a plan to enhance the tourism in the area, where it is expected to be developed other facilities such as a new museum in the Zaghouan Cathedral.
