University of Sussex student Accommodation DBFO launches prequalification

The University of Sussex (UK) is looking for a partner to design, build, fund and operate the new student accommodation residences at East Slope for a period of up to 50 years following practical completion of the new buildings.

A key consideration for the University is the transfer of occupancy risk. It is envisaged that the partner will also be responsible for the provision of facilities management services and that the University will retain the delivery of pastoral care and student administrative services.

The University would also like to explore with bidders the feasibility of including the development of the nearby West Slope site for new student accommodation. The University would particularly like to consider whether the development of both sites could be delivered using an incremental partnership. Using this model a developer would initially be appointed to deliver the East Slope and subject to satisfying certain preconditions set out in the contract and subject to procurement law, the developer may be chosen to deliver West Slope.

Further information is available in the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) and the Information Memorandum (IM).

The estimated investment for the contract is between £120 million and £150 million. The deadline for submission of proposals is 18 November 2013.
