Globalvia acquires Pocahontas Parkway

Globalvia was designated "Preferred Bidder" in the sale process of 100% of the shares of the American Highway Pocahontas Parkway, located in the city of Richmond, Virginia (U.S).

The operation, with more than US$600 million value, is scheduled to be completed before the year ends.

This transaction means Globalvia landing in the American Infrastructure Market and a success for the business strategy of the company.

This toll highway, with a length of 16.7 kilometers, two lanes in each direction and an average of 6 million of vehicles in 2015, links the south of Richmond to important traffic arteries in the area, such as I95 and I295.

Furthermore, Pocahontas Parkway Highway affords significant savings in time and distance for those people who wants to cross the James river using the bridge as part of the highway sketch. The highway is also the main access between the International Airport of Richmond and the south of the city.

The highway, which became operational in 2002, has a toll system that combines the traditional and the free flow toll system. This system allows registered users to pay without stopping the vehicle through a series of arcades located in some points of the road. The concession period ends in 2105

As we reported in June  2013, Transurban announced the transfer of Pocahontas 895 to the lenders of the asset, a consortium European banks who put up US$300 m for the pike.
