Hello,If we talk about road concessions in Nigeria, we will name the 49km Lekki-Epe Expressway. The government awarded a contract for the expansion and reconstruction of road to the Lekki Concession Company. The company is to collect toll fees on the road for 30 years, a decision that has not gone down well with some residents, especially those who live and do business on the Lekki corridorThe Lagos State Government is discussing with some private investors on the possibility of concessioning more roads to facilitate infrastructural development. Ganiyu Johnson, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, over the weekend, said that the investors were expected to recoup their money through tolls on the roads.Mr Johnson said that some of the roads that would be concessioned include:- Berger-Isawo Road.- Ajegunle-Agboyi-Ogudu Road.- Mende-Opebi Road- Mende to Ogudu to link the Third Mainland Bridge.- Ajao Estate-Ejigbo Road which would connect the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road.Mr Johnson said the government's partnership with the private sector under the Public-Private Partnership initiative was now in vogue in the world, and Nigeria should be an exception. "When the private sector invests in road development through concessioning that lasts for some years, it will construct toll plazas on such roads and canvass advertisement placements to recoup its investments," he said. "This will encourage real estate development because of the high volume of human, vehicular and corporate traffic that such corridors would attract." According to him, the state government had evolved a legal framework that would attract and convince investors on the projects. He added that the government had completed the preliminary designs of the proposed roads. You can follow us also on Twitter.Regards
