Mott MacDonald providing PPP expertise to the Government of Mauritania

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the World Bank Group to provide public-private partnership (PPP) advice to the Government of Mauritania (GoM), following a successful technical assistance screening in 2015.

The GoM is developing a comprehensive political, legal and institutional framework to conduct successful PPP transactions and attract national and foreign private sector investments. Assistance has been sought to establish and operate a dedicated PPP unit, which will serve as a centre of expertise and help projects reach financial close. The unit will also disseminate PPP information and resources, contribute to capacity building and support contractual authorities in managing viable PPP projects included in the pipeline.

Mott MacDonald has supported PPP development in Mauritania for the last two years. It will now conduct a series of training sessions for GoM officials, help develop a dedicated PPP website, advise existing departments and support implementing institutions in developing the most bankable PPP transactions.

Antoine Bonnafous, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said:

“Mauritania has many PPP infrastructure prospects, such as wind farms, ports and sanitation management. Getting these prospects up and running would improve public services and help reduce poverty in the country.”

Mott MacDonald’s commission is due to finish at the end of 2017.
