Zambia issues RFP to shortlisted bidders for six road PPPs

The Government of the Republic of Zambia, through the Road Development Agency (RDA), Supply and Communications, has launched a request for proposals for six road PPP projects.

The preferred bidders will be responsible for the construction, upgrade, rehabilitation and maintenance of the selected road projects. RDA identified the following projects for conversion to dual carriageways in order to accommodate rising traffic levels:

  • Lusaka to Ndola (T002/T003), approximately 321 km, including Kafulafuta to Luanshya Town (M006), approximately 45 km;
  • Ndola to Kasumbalesa Border (T003), approximately 150 km;
  • Kazungula via Livingstone to Turnpike (M10/T001), approximately 488 km (including a potential Livingstone Town Bypass road from Kazungula);
  • Chirundu Border to Chilanga in Lusaka (T002), approximately 124 km;
  • Chingola to Mutanda via Solwezi (T005), approximately 205 km; and
  • Kapiri Mposhi to Nakonde (T002), approximately 855 km.

The selected bidder will have to finance, design, construct, operate, maintain and toll the proposed road projects. Bidders shall demonstrate, among others, economic proficiency and financial capacity to finance or to secure financing for the investments required under the concession.

The Government of Zambia had launched a Request for Expressions of Interest in July 2015.

Shortlisted bidder must submit their proposals on or before 12 February 2016.
