Transport for Greater Manchester—often abbreviated TfGM—is the public transport authority responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering transport within the Greater Manchester city-region in North West England. As an executive arm of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), TfGM advances the strategic vision set by local government and the Mayor.
Public Transit Oversight: TfGM owns and oversees the Metrolink light rail system, manages bus franchising, and works toward integration with commuter rail lines under its Bee Network initiative.
Bee Network Implementation: TfGM is rolling out Greater Manchester’s unified transport system—integrating buses, trams, cycling, walking, and ultimately rail—with consistent livery, contactless fares and capped prices.
Active Travel & Cycling Infrastructure: TfGM is expanding networks for walking and cycling, including Bike Hire schemes and dedicated walking/cycling corridors called “Busy Beeways” and “Beeways”.
Fare & Ticketing System: They've introduced a contactless “Tap and Go” fare system citywide, and are preparing the Bee Card smartcard—Greater Manchester’s equivalent to London’s Oyster card
