ACS, OHL team win hospital concession in Spain

The government of Aragon, Spain, has awarded a team formed by Iridium Concesiones (ACS) and OHL the development of the new Alcañiz hospital through a concession contract.

The consortium beat out competition from three other shortlisted teams. ACS - OHL consortium has got an score of 829.95 points, followed by Ferrovial with 806.99 points, Construcciones Mariano López Navarro with 575.65 points and the team formed by Inabensa (Abengoa), Assignia and Meridiam with 440.13 points.

The 193-bed hospital will have an area of 73.818 m². The project involves the construction, finance and maintenance of the new facilities for a period of 20 years. It will also includes non clinical services and he development of a general access road to the hospital.

The total project investment is estimated at €119.6 million (US$136.8 million).

The total contract value during the concession period was estimated at €451 million (US$516.1 million) but the winning consortium bid €393 million, a 13% reduction in price.

The design was developed by EACSN Estudio de arquitectura in 2009.

Alcañiz is a town and municipality in the province of Teruel, in the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. It has a population of about 17,000 inhabitants.
