Belo Horizonte prepares city hall building under PPP

The municipality of Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais, Brazil) has announced plans to develop a new city hall through a public-private partnership (PPP) structure.

The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operation and maintenance basis. The new city hall will be placed in the city center where a bus parking station is currently located.

The new facilities will have capacity to house up to 10,000 public servants. The built area will be approximately 100,000 m², of which 14,000 m² will be used for parking and outdoors area, 8,000 m² will be used for special areas (halls, meeting rooms, customer service areas) and 75,000 m² for the administrative area.

It is estimated that about 63 administrative units in the city of Belo Horizonte will be transferred to the new administrative center. The project should be flexible enough to cater for possible future changes in the organizational structure.

Belo Horizonte has several PPP projects in planning stage. On 5 February 2014, a public hearing was held to clarify and make public the bidding process for the northern stretch of Belo Horizonte ring road through a PPP.

On 20 February 2014, the state of Minas Gerais, through the Department of Economic Development, launched the public consultation for a convention centre PPP project, Expominas II, which will also be located in Belo Horizonte.
