Benin approves PPP law

The Government of Benin has passed a new legal framework on public-private-partnership (PPP).

Long awaited, this new legal instruments should allow Benin to better organize relations between public authorities and the private sector. Such legislation therefore fills a large gap in the investment legal framework of Benin.

This new legal framework is expected to create and maintain confidence between the private and the public sector. This confidence is essential for a good business climate. This should help to boost investment and strengthen the foundations for the Beninese economy growth.

The setting up of this instrument is a good new for both national and foreign investors and will help Benin to face challenges in terms of road infrastructure, energy, agriculture, telecommunications and social community.

Prior to the law, the government implemented a PPP for the development of a new container terminal. The concession agreement was signed in September 2009.
