Commercial Close achieved on the US$2.1 billion River Bridge project in USA

Plenary’s Calcasieu Bridge Partners team has achieved commercial close with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) on the US$2.1 billion Interstate 10 Calcasieu River Bridge project in Louisiana, USA.

The current bridge spanning the Calcasieu River on Interstate 10 in Louisiana, linking Lake Charles and Westlake, is over 70 years old and inadequate for current traffic demands. The project encompasses the following:

  1. Designing and constructing a new eight-lane bridge across the Calcasieu River, featuring three travel lanes and one auxiliary lane in each direction.
  2. Modifying and relocating existing roadways and interchanges.
  3. Dismantling and removing the current Calcasieu River Bridge after traffic has transitioned to the new bridge.
  4. Managing and maintaining the new bridge and related roadway.
  5. Implementing roadside and back-office systems for toll revenue collection compatible with existing LA tolling systems and the Central States US Hub.
  6. Overseeing tolling operations, including a customer service center.

Members of the Calcasieu Bridge Partners team include:

  • Lead developer and equity member: Plenary Americas
  • Equity members: ACCIONA and Sacyr
  • Design-Build Joint Venture: ACCIONA and Sacyr
  • Tolling Operator: Kapsch
  • Operations & Maintenance: Plenary Americas, ACCIONA and Sacyr

LaDOTD and the Calcasieu Bridge Partners team will work toward reaching financial close. Notice to Proceed is expected to occur in spring 2024 and construction of the new bridge is anticipated to be complete by 2031.
