Contract awarded for the construction of section of multibillion Rail PPP Project in Philippines

The Philippines Department of Transportation has selected CIMIC Group company Leighton Asia to construct a section of the North-South Commuter Railway System – South Commuter Railway Project (SCRP).

Leighton-First Balfour will build the contract package S-03B (CP S-03B) for the project, generating revenue for Leighton Asia of approximately AUD283 million (US$183 million). The scope of work includes civil engineering, tunneling and construction works on approximately 6.1 km of railway, 4.7 km of underground railway and 1.4 km of surface railway. It also involves the construction of an FTI station, tunneling work to connect to Metro Manila's Senate station, and mechanical, electrical, façade and other works. The SCR CP S-03B project is part of an almost 56 km section of SCRP that runs along the existing Philippine National Railway and consists of 19 stations.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “The project is part of the Government’s larger strategic transportation network to boost economic and urban growth between metro Manila and southern Luzon".

Construction will begin in Q3 and Q4 of 2023 and be completed by 2029.
