Thurrock Council has appointed Muse Places as the preferred development partner to progress the Purfleet-on-Thames regeneration project in Purfleet, Essex.
The Purfleet-on-Thames regeneration project is a major long-term initiative led by Thurrock Council to transform the town into a modern, mixed-use community. The regeneration involves the comprehensive redevelopment of a large area of Purfleet, aiming to create around 2,850 new homes along with a new town centre. This town centre will include shops, restaurants, public spaces, and community facilities designed to improve residents' quality of life. The project also plans to provide essential services such as a primary school, healthcare facilities, and improved public infrastructure, helping to support a growing population and create a sustainable urban environment.
The development includes commercial spaces and a significant creative and media hub, including film and television production studios, which are expected to generate thousands of jobs and position Purfleet as a centre for creative industries. Alongside this, improvements to transport infrastructure—such as upgrades to the railway station and better road and pedestrian connections—are planned to enhance accessibility and connectivity within the area.
Overall, the project represents a major regeneration effort intended to revitalise Purfleet-on-Thames both physically and economically. While it has faced delays in the past, the appointment of a new development partner signals renewed momentum and a commitment to delivering a large-scale transformation that will benefit residents, businesses, and the wider region.
