EIB considers financing Beatrix lock PPP

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering financing the Beatrix lock public private partnership (PPP) project in the Netherlands.

The project consists of the construction of a third and larger lock adjacent to the existing Princess Beatrix lock complex and the widening of the Lek Canal, including additional berthing space.

The main objectives of the project are to provide additional capacity to the existing lock complex, decrease vessel waiting times and ensure smooth, reliable and safe traffic of motor cargo vessels of up to CEMT Class VIa along the Lek Canal, which is located in the North Sea - Baltic Core Network Corridor.

The promoter, Rijkswaterstaat, which is part of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, launched a tender process last month to develop the A-27 road stretch between Utrecht - Hilversum and the A1 road stretch between Hilversum and Bunschoten-Spakenburg through a PPP project.

Previously, in mid March, we reported that Rijkswaterstaat launched a tender process for the A6 "Almere Havendreef - Almere East" PPP project.
