The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering providing finance for the construction of nine school and kindergarten campuses in the City of Vienna, Austria, under a PPP scheme.
The EIB would provide approximately €300 million (US$333.5 million).
The programme involves the construction of 10 educational facilities in the period 2012-2023 by way of the Vienna "Campus plus" concept, implementing a modern, state-of-the-art pedagogical concept. While the pilot project (Bildungscampus Attemsgasse) is currently under tender, the programme under appraisal by EIB comprises 9 educational facilities.
The individual projects will be procured under design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) PPP contracts.
The pilot project mentioned above involves the development of a kindergarten, an elementary school, 2 gyms, a youth centre and a music school, among others. The contract is scheduled to start in January 2016 and to finish in August 2042.
Vienna, with a population of about 1.757 million (2.4 million within the metropolitan area), is the capital and the largest city of Austria. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union.
