The Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador and Consur S.A. have signed the concession contract for the Rio 7 highway PPP project in Huaquillas, Ecuador.

As we recently reported, the government of Ecuador awarded the concession contract for the road project on July 1.

The Río 7-Huaquillas highway 30-year concession agreement comprises the design, building, financing, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) of a six-lane 95 km road connecting the northeast and northwest of Ecuador's El Oro province.

The project aims to transform the road into a high-capacity highway, part of the E-25 corridor.  Río Siete-Huaquillas is part of Ecuador's strategic mobility plan. The total project cost is expected to stand at US$877 million.

In September 2015 we reported that the government of Ecuador announced a plan to develop four public private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects in the country. New regulations and laws were established established for the PPP plan to go ahead.

The Government recently awarded DP World with the concession contract for developing the new Posorja deep water port in Guayaquil, at the delta of the Guayas River. Yilport also signed the first PPP project in the country to develop a new port terminal in Puerto Bolivar, in the municipality of Machala, El Oro Province.
