No interest for student accommodation projects in Spain

The University of Almeria and the University of Cantabria, both in Spain, have received little interest for their student accommodation projects.

In mid September we reported that the University of Almeria launched a tender process to develop a university student accommodation project through a concession contract in Almeria, in the south Spain.

According to sources, only one bidder submitted a proposal in October for the contract and its name will be announced when the procurement process is completed.

The project will be located in the city center near the train station in an area of 2,183 m². The new facilities will offer accommodation for 400 students. The building will have 7 - 8 floors.

The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operation and maintenance basis. The concession period is 40 years.

It is estimated that the total project investment will be about €9 million (US$11.1 million).

In early September we reported that the University of Cantabria launched a tender process to develop a student housing through a concession contract in Santander, Cantabria, north Spain.

Interested parties had to submit their proposals by 10 October 2014 but the University of Cantabria did not received any proposal.

The new facility would have a capacity of 200 rooms which would have a minimum of 20 m² each. The project would involve the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of the new facility. The concession period would be 40 years.

The total project investment is estimated at €10 million (US$12.4 million). The preferred bidder would have paid around €120,ooo per year to Cantabria University, according to the tender documents.
