Qatar issues RFQ for a IWPP project

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has launched a tender process for a new independent water and power project.

Kahramaa has issued a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for the Facility E IWPP project, with submissions due on 25 September 2017.

The project will be between 2,000 MW and 2,500 MW in size with 100-130 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalination capacity. It is expected to help the country to have enough capacity to meet the demand beyond 2020.

In February 2017, an Ernst & Young-led consortium won the tender to advise Kahramaa on the tender process.

Last year, we reported that Umm Al Houl Power (UHP) of Qatar closed project financing for the Facility D, a similar project in the country. The total project investment is estimated at US$3.2 billion.

Facility D involves the construction, ownership, and operation of a natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant with a total capacity of 2400 MW, and a desalination plant with a total capacity og 590 thousand cubic meters per day. The new facility will be developed in the vicinity of Qatar Economic Zone 3, located some 20 km to the south of Doha.
