Qualification launched for cable car concession in Peru

Proinversión, Peru's private investment promotion agency, has launched the request for qualifications (RFQ) for a cable car concession to serve the archaeological complex "Kuelap Fortress" located in the department of Amazonas.

The project will be developed on a design, finance, construction, operation and maintenance basis for a period of 20 years.

The deadline for submission of qualification documents is 19 May 2014. The results of the qualification process will be announced on May 23rd.

The project involves the implementation of a tourist cable car between the town of Nuevo Tingo and Kuelap Fortress - Amazon and complementary tourist services in favor of Kuelap Fortress archaeological complex. Aims to improve and optimize the accessibility to the Fortress of Kuelap.

The cable cars, with a length of 4400 meters, will overcome the distance of an approximate 1000 meters between the stations.

The fortress of Kuelap or Cuélap (Chachapoyas, Amazonas, Perú), associated with the Chachapoyas culture, consists of massive exterior stone walls containing more than four hundred buildings. The structure, situated on a ridge overlooking the Utcubamba Valley in northern Peru, is roughly 600 meters in length and 110 meters in width.

Proinversion also plans to develop the Choquequirao cable car as a Public-private partnership (PPP) project. In March 2014 the agency awarded the consultancy tender for a transaction advisor to structure the project to the consortium formed by PwC and Ingerop Conseil et Ingenierie.
