Transaction advisor sought for South Africa's rail project

The Gautrain Management Agency (South Africa) is seeking a Transaction Advisor to conduct a feasibility study for possible rapid rail extensions to the Gautrain network.

The Gautrain is a state-of-the-art rapid rail network in Gautengone of the nine provinces of South Africa. The rail connection comprises of two links, namely a link between Pretoria and Johannesburg and a link between Tambo International Airport and Sandton. 

Gautrain offers international standards of public transport with high levels of safety, reliability, predictability and comfort. Travelling at maximum speeds of 160 to 180 kilometres per hour it reaches Pretoria from Johannesburg in less than 40 minutes.

The transaction advisor will have a team of suitably qualified and experienced financial, economic, technical and legal advisors to help the GMA:

  1. Part 1: Undertake a comprehensive feasibility study for possible new rapid rail links and/or extensions to the existing Gautrain system, by amongst others, identifying existing and future growth points in the Province of Gauteng, and determining demand for public transport for the next 25 years.
  1. Part 2: If required afterwards, provide advisory services for the appropriate procurement of the project.

GMA has conducted a preliminary needs analysis, which has resulted in the identification of four potential railway alignments. There will be a compulsory briefing session on May 9th.
