Ukraine to tender port concessions

Ukraine's Ministry of Infrastructure Maksym Burbak has announced that Ukraine plans to tender several port concessions.

Mr Maksym Burbak stated:

I once again confirm the necessity of implementation of seaports' reform. The year of the process revealed shortcomings that should be eliminated. So I ask the experts, professionals, investors to give their suggestions and comments to involve more actively in the development of investment projects, provide them to the Ministry of Infrastructure and start to implement them.

The government is currently preparing the tender procedure for the Yuzhnyi seaport concession. Feasibility study for the project was developed by the Yuzhnyi seaport with the assistance of Roland Berger consulting company.

Yuzhnyi port is one of the most promising hubs of Ukraine. It is located on the banks of Ajalyk estuary in the north-west coast of the Black Sea.

Feasibility studies of investment projects in Mariupol, Berdyansk, Belgorod-Dnitrovskyi, Illichivck ports are at the moment also being prepared under concession with the participation of international experts.

The transport sector in Ukraine does not cover the needs of the economy and population. Ukraine is uncompetitive as the high costs of transport across the country make the cost of production in the country uncommonly high. Now the government plans to attract private investors to improve the Ukrainian transport infrastructure, transport and logistics technologies and multimodal transport.

Several PPP transport projects are in planning stage in Ukraine. The Kyiv belt road PPP project, announced on 18 July 2013, the Boryspil airport concession, which involves the expansion of terminal D and the Kyiv's fourth subway line.
