University of Exeter issues student accommodation RfQ

A Request for Qualifications has been issued by The University of Exeter for the development of a design, build, finance and operate scheme, for the student residences facility containing 1200 rooms at East Park, Streatham Campus. The deadline for the submissions is due November 28, 2017.

The contract is worth about £125 million, it will deliver an off balance sheet transaction and a capital receipt to the University for a student residences facility in keeping with a UK Top 10 and the Russell Group University. It will also enhance student experience on campus and provide value for money for both the University and students.

The delivery of the Student Residences facility will provide in the region of 1200 beds, an off balance sheet transaction, a facility that enhances student experience, generation of a capital receipt, value for money for both the University and the students, on-campus quality affordable accommodation provision commensurate with the expectations of a fee paying student, and to meet the increased demand for student accommodation arising from its growing population.

Outline planning permission has been granted by Exeter City Council for 32 230 m2 including 1 500 m2 for ancillary accommodation’, therefore leaving 30 730 m2 for student accommodation. The University envisages a contract to operate the facility of approximately 50 years from practical completion.
