With traditional lenders of infrastructure finance -governments and the banks- wrestling with economic pressures and increasing regulation, institutional investors are stepping in to help bridge the project funding gap. However, while project finance offers some attractive characteristics for these lenders, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services believes there are a number of elements to be put in place if the project bond market is to thrive, not least standard transaction structures.
