Aberdeen Standard Investments has agreed to buy Carlsbad Desalination Plant located in Carlsbad, California. Aberdeen is investing more than US$ 1 billion for the plant.

Currently, the plant is owned by Orion Water Partners LLC, a joint venture between Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and Poseidon waters. The Orion Water Partners have signed the concession of 30 years with San Diego County Water Authority in 2012.

The Carlsbad Desalination Plant is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant in the USA. Each day, it delivers nearly 50 million gallons (56,000 acre-feet per year (AFY)) of fresh, desalinated water to San Diego County – enough to serve approximately 400,000 people and accounting for about one-third of all water generated in the county.

Earlier this year Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and Poseidon Water have launched the sale of Carlsbad Desalination Plant located in California, USA, with an information memorandum document issued to interested bidders. The purchase price, including the assumption of debt, was expected to exceed US$1 billion.
