ACWA Power has submitted the lowest bid to the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) for the development of the Hidd Independent Water Production (IWP) Project in Bahrain, emerging as the apparent frontrunner for the desalination contract.
ACWA has emerged as the apparent frontrunner for Bahrain's Hidd Independent Water Production (IWP) Project, having submitted the lowest bid with a Levelized Cost of Water (LCOW) of BHD 0.276 per cubic metre, according to bid results announced by the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA). The Hidd IWP is a major desalination initiative aimed at strengthening Bahrain's water infrastructure and will be developed under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) framework with private sector participation.
The project entails the development, financing, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of a Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant with a Guaranteed Net Contracted Water Capacity (GNCWC) of 11,364 cubic metres per hour. Upon completion, the facility will significantly expand Bahrain's potable water production capacity, bolster the Kingdom's long-term water security, and meet the rising water requirements of its municipal, industrial, and commercial sectors.
