The State of Alagoas in Brazil, in partnership with The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), has received seven bids for the water supply and sewage infrastructure project in the town of Maceió.

In June 2020, the state government has launched the tender for the implementation, expansion, maintenance, operation, and management of a Sewerage System in 13 municipalities of Maceió, located in the areas of Litoral Norte, Serraria, Farol, Orla da Lagoa Mundaú, Jacitinho, Córrego do Sapo and surroundings under the Public-Private Partnership scheme. The deal is offered for a 35-year concession at about BRL2.6 billion (US$490 million) investment.

The bidders for the project are: a consortium formed by São Paulo state utility Sabesp and Iguá Saneamento; a consortium made up by energy company Equatorial and Sonel; a consortium composed by Enops Engenharia and Aviva Ambiental; another consortium formed by Conasa, Zeta, and Elo; and the companies Aegea Saneamento, BRK Ambiental and Águas do Brasil.

Once the project is in place, Companhia de Saneamento de Alagoas (CASAL) will lead the collection, treatment, and sale of water for the Concessionaire to distribute to users.
