A team of France’s Alstom along with Israel’s Electra and Minrav have won a EUR 1 billion (US$ 1.08 billion) contract to design, finance, build, and operate a 41 km light rail system connecting Haifa and Nazareth for Trans Israel.
The NofiT project includes Alstom's contribution, which exceeds EUR 700 million (US$ 759 million), with a maintenance contract worth about EUR 140 million (US$ 152 million). Alstom is tasked with the design, engineering, supply, integration, testing, and commissioning of the light rail system. This encompasses tracks, electrification, energy-saving power supply, signaling, communication systems, depot equipment, and the supply and maintenance of 54 Citadis trams. Electra and Minrav are responsible for managing the design and construction of civil works. The operation and maintenance will be handled by a joint venture between Electra Afikim, Minrav, and Alstom. The line, stretching 41 km from Haifa to Nazareth and featuring 20 stations, is designed with modern trams and is projected to transport 120,000 passengers daily over 21 years of operation and maintenance.
